In the pursuit of big tone at low volume, there are a few common ways that output volume can be reduced.

  1. The first is through the use of a power attenuator between the amp and the speaker.
  2. Another common scheme is to use one of the many master volume control options.
  3. Yet another idea is to use an isolation cabinet.

These all have their merit but in my own experience nothing ever seems to sound as good as a loud amp… YMMV.
